"Treat Yourself Right" + Dr. Rita
Published: Tue, 09/14/10
Hi ,
Are you treating yourself right? Think about any loving relationship - both parties are kind to one other. They are faithful and considerate.
You do little things to show you care. You don't verbally or physically abuse the other.
Yesterday, the phrase "Treat Your Body Right" popped into my head. So I decided to make it a "Treat My Body Right" day. Ideally, that should be every day, but I admit I don't treat my body right every single day.
I realized that I decide how this day will be recorded in my personal history book. Did I want to spend it with low energy or worry? Or did I want to feel my best - physically, mentally, and spiritually?
So for my "Treat My Body Right" Day, here are some things I did:
- Did some morning stretches (reach for the sky then touch my toes)
- Took a multivitamin and a fish oil capsule
- Drank 8 cups of water
- Ate only when my body was physically hungry
- Ate 2 1/2 cups of leafy green vegetables
- Ate fruit and nuts for my snacks (pear, a peach, 1/4 cup of almonds)
- Jump roped and did some kettlebell swings in the morning
- Went to my belly dancing class that evening
- Took a hot bath with scented bath salts before bed
Pick a day this week and make it a "Treat My Body Right" day. What does your ideal day look like? Write it down and pick one day to practice it.
Here's a side benefit - I believe it is easier to expect other people to treat you right when you treat yourself right first!
Need some ideas? Here is the other "treat" I was talking about: I have a wonderful audio interview posted on TBYT now with Dr. Rita Hancock, the author of the book "The Eden Diet".
Dr. Rita and I had so much fun discussing overcoming emotional eating and weight loss. She was once 207 pounds herself, but lost 75 pounds and has kept it off for 26 years!
In the interview, Dr. Rita discusses the sneaky tactics food marketers use to get you to eat when you aren't hungry, how to exercise with physical limitations, and many more ways you can overcome barriers that can keep you from reaching your best weight.
You can listen to Dr. Rita's interview free on my new Take Back Your Temple audio page here:

I am sure you will enjoy the interview and learn a lot about what it takes to lose weight and keep it off for life - even while eating chocolate cake.
