Telesummit Day 5: Is it Worth it?
Published: Fri, 08/06/10
Hi ,
Last night, a cute incident happened during Christina Mroz's telesummit message (if you listened, you know the part I'm talking about) that reminded me of John Lennon's famous statement:
Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans.
I love Christina's practical tips on how you can make physical activity a natural part of your life rather than an interruption to it - five minutes at a time if necessary! One part of her message particularly spoke to me. She told of her experiences watching people on treadmills at the gym and how they seemed to disconnect their minds from their bodies.
I can relate. Back when I was obese, I had similar experiences, only it was the simple act of looking at myself in the mirror every day. I always focused on my face. I was afraid to even look at myself from the neck down because I knew it would unleash a barrage of hurtful, critical thoughts about my body's condition.
I now know that it is sin to habitually insult the body that God says in his word is "fearfully and wonderfully made" (Psalm 139:14).
Before I could overcome emotional eating and reach my ideal weight, I had to re-establish that connection between my spirit, soul, and body. I had to learn to claim all parts of myself, loving my body as God's unique creation. I had to start taking care of myself out of love rather than a desire to "fix" myself. And physical activity was a big part of that.
I want to share with you a message I wrote to a reader named "Ally" that I hope illustrates the point about the mind, body, spirit connection. Ally wrote about how hard it was to stick with her weight loss program and she was considering giving up. Here is a part of my message to her and I pray it blesses you today:

I did my prayer walk this morning and enjoyed it thoroughly. It was such a glorious morning, not a cloud in the sky.
As I walking on my way back home, a view in the distance caught my eye. It was really beautiful because you could see the hills very far off - they actually looked like mountains. I thought "Wow that is gorgeous. I'll bet if I climb the big hill I could see them better". The big hill is the steepest in the neighborhood. Then I thought "No, it is too hot to be doing that". Yet when it was time to go the way I had planned or take the street leading to the big hill, my feet seemed to turn toward the big hill on their own accord.
I chuckled to myself, "That is the story of my life". And it is. If I see a better way of doing things or a better way of living, then I go for it. God confirmed it in my spirit as I was walking up the big hill that he designed me that way.
When I got up there, I could see the view for miles. It was so beautiful. And God asked me in my spirit "Is it worth it?" I answered "Yes, Lord it is."
I thought about the trials that I've gone through and am going through even now. I may not understand it and may not like it. But through it all, I must remind myself that they are worth it if I use them as an opportunity to grow closer to my Lord.
You see, Ally, that is what life is about. Life is about coming to know God and Jesus Christ on a personal level. It's not about fitting into a particular dress size or having flatter abs. So you must have your priorities straight. So please don't beat yourself up if you fail or make your weight more important than it is.
With that being said, your health is important. If you take care of that, then you will reach the weight that is best for you. I suspect you already know what you need to be doing to get healthy. The question to ask yourself now is "Is it worth it?" When you can say "Yes" to that question, you will start structuring your life to ensure you stay healthy.

The telesummit is nearly over and I have learned so much. I hope you have too. We have one more speaker and I believe she comes up tomorrow night. Her name is Dani Rotramel and I can't wait to hear the wisdom she will share.
So you get tonight off. I hope you have been taking notes. It may be a good time to reflect on what you have learned this week and think about how you can make the recommendations part of your daily life - which is where change happens.
