Hearing God's Voice - the First Step

How can you hear God's voice clearly and why is that important? It is critical to overcoming any emotional eating habits that keep you bound. When you hear God's voice, he leads you in the way you should go.
You have no power, but God's power. You have no strength but God's strength. God is the source of it all.
The bible tells you how to be strong in the Lord and the power of his might (Ephesians 6:10-18). It describes the pieces of God's armor and the first is to gird your waist with truth. In ancient times, they believed that the stomach was the seat of your emotions. Have you ever heard of "gut feeling"? That is where that expression comes from. Excessive eating is often an effort to comfort your feelings.

To gird your waist with truth, you must control your emotions with truth. Many people say that "the truth will set you free." But that is a lie because it is only part of the story. The full quote is: "Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, "If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free" (John 8:31-32).
How many of us are in emotional pain because the only voices we hear are the voice of the enemy, of the past, or of negative people around us? Because we accept those voices as truth, they shape our choices and the direction of our lives.
Hearing God's voice can break the cycle, but you must trust him. But how can you trust someone fully that you don't know?
