Living in Excellence
Published: Thu, 03/26/09
Dear ,
How would you like to go to the next level in life? The only thing standing between you and that goal is the way you invest your time today.
The bible advises using time wisely: "See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil" (Ephesians 5:16).
When you walk circumspectly, you carefully consider your circumstances, the consequences of your choices, and take action based on that. When it comes to your time, you have the mindset of a successful investor: "Everything that I do must add value."
We serve a God of excellence. In every situation I have read about in the bible, God's ultimate goal was to do good to his people and in doing so, bring glory to Himself. Whether rich or poor, he has given everyone a gift of 1,440 minutes each day. Investing some of these minutes into gaining a heart of wisdom, understanding, and adding value is a wonderful way to glorify God. It is also a great way to show respect for His gift.

Ask yourself this question throughout the day: "Is what I am about to adding value to my life or am I de-valuing it?" Some actions cause your personal "stock" to rise and some will cause it to plummet! You become rich when the investments you make are value-added ones - this is true in every area whether financial, spiritual, physical, or in relationships.
Here are three areas I recommend you invest in daily to live a life of excellence:
Spiritual Development
A survey once said that people spend an average of 3 hours a day watching television, but only 3 minutes a day in prayer. With that pattern, which do you think would have the biggest influence on your desires and behavior over time? Spend quiet time with God every day to allow His presence and word to renew your thoughts and your spirit. Doing this daily will enable others to begin to see a real difference in your attitude and your behavior.
Relationships
At the end of your life, you aren't going to be thinking that you should have spent more time at work; you will be thinking you should have spent more time with your loved ones. Spend time building quality relationships and adding value. Consider your attitude concerning others - are you demonstrating love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control? If not, then investing in spiritual development will yield these fruits so that you can.

Energy
I read a statement once that "Fatigue makes cowards of us all." Energy powers everything you do. So many people are living lives with low energy and aren't getting maximum value from their lives as a result. Failing to make good choices with your health habits impacts your energy level - and as a result the quality of your relationships and your professional success. Invest in sound nutrition and exercise and you will notice immediate rewards in increased energy, ability to focus, and self respect.
