Two Fun Ways to Ditch the Pounds

Published: Tue, 08/19/08

Dear ,

Before I give you the tips on ditching the pounds, I just had to share with you a comment I got about the email I sent last week, "Please beware of this one word". You'll recall that the word was try. Sandra Z. wrote me back about it and had this great alternative:

"I have learned years ago not to use the word "try".  I even instill this in my children.  I teach them to use the word "strive", which means to devote serious effort or energy in whatever they endeavor in life."

Sandra's terrific tip reminds me of Philippians 3:12 - "Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me."

You aren't looking for perfection in your health habits, but you focus on making steady progress, doing a little better every day. If you encounter setbacks...well, that's just a do-over! Make it a game.

Just because you are putting energy into reaching for your goals doesn't mean that you can't have fun. Building some fun into your day is essential to losing weight. The more fun and easy you can make it, the more you'll stick with it and the better your chances of long-term success.

Here are two games I used often on my own weight loss journey to ditch the pounds. Do these yourself:

*  Grocery relay: Instead of loading yourself down with groceries when you are bringing them into the house after a shopping trip, only take 1 or two bags in at a time. Walk as fast as you can to bring them into the house, then run back to the car to get the next one. If you have children, have them stand by the truck and pass the bag to you. Not only will you get some exercise, but you'll set a great example for your children and they will love seeing you run (or walk very fast)!

* Dance movie challenge: Rent a musical movie DVD like Grease, West Side Story, Footloose, or Drumline. Whenever the characters get up and dance, you do it too.

You'll learn other other games that you can use to de-stress and add some fun while shedding pounds when you order the  Take Back Your Temple ebook at http://www.takebackyourtemple.com/book.

Remember the old saying, "A body at rest tends to stay at rest - a body in motion tends to stay in motion. To lose the weight, remember to have fun and put your body in motion. And keep striving for health and wellness because your life is worth it!

P.S. I've had several people ask me lately if they can get a printed copy of the Take Back Your Temple ebook for themselves, friends, or family members, or the audio version of the book on CD. If you are interested, I do have a few hard copies of these materials available so just email me and I'll be happy to send you the details.

Thanks for forwarding this email on to all others for whom this information will be a blessing.
