Take Back Your Temple / Are you being deceived?

Published: Wed, 05/14/08

Hi ,

This morning I was reading in the book of Proverbs and one scripture caught my attention. It read:

When you sit down to eat with a ruler,
Consider carefully what is before you;
And put a knife to your throat
If you are a man given to appetite.
Do not desire his delicacies,
For they are deceptive food.

- Proverbs 23: 1-3

Wow, two powerful lessons for those of us who've had/have weight problems! The first principle is to consider carefully what is placed before you when you eat and to practice self-control.

The second lesson is even more important because I think it is a problem many of us are dealing with today...eating too much deceptive food. A deceptive food tastes good on your tongue, but ends up affecting your body in a bad way.

Deceptive foods often make you feel sick, sleepy, sluggish, lazy, confused, or irritable after you eat them. These foods are different for every person. A food that might be deceptive for you might be one that someone else tolerates just fine.

One motivational speaker once said that some people don't do well because they don't feel well. How do you feel right now?

Do you end your day having done all the things you need to do with energy to spare?

Are you excited and optimistic about life?

Are you confident that your current diet is keeping you well and not making you sick?

If not, then you might be tolerating too many deceptive foods in your diet.

If you are not sure about this, then I recommend getting a copy of the MoneyWise Weight Loss Health and Wealth Journal.

In the journal, there is space enough to write down how the food you eat makes you feel. It also helps you practice self control because you record how much you are eating, hunger level, and whether you are eating to satisfaction or past full. It's a terrific tool to put the lesson of the Proverb into daily practice so you can reach your ideal size.

The power is in your hands. Use it!

Be blessed in health, wealth, and wisdom,

Kim
