Why did we move our private, support community OFF Facebook?
It started with a TBYT member we will call "Alexandra."
Alexandra joined our TBYT Christian weight loss program (specially designed for those who suffer emotional eating issues), and wanted to connect with other members in our private community, which was on Facebook at that time.
However, Alexandra did not want to use her personal photo in her Facebook profile.
Facebook BLOCKED her.
My husband Mike and I did not think that was right.
We did not want Facebook having power to deny our member of the group fellowship and support that we promise in our program!
We considered Luke 15:4:
"What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it?"
So we decided to build our own private, support community so another member would never have to fear Facebook blocking.
Once we made that decision, the Lord showed up for us in mighty ways!
He sent the resources and people we needed to make it happen (see attached photos from the site in while it was in development).
This past week, we have been shepherding our existing members off the old Facebook group to our new, private secure community.
We have gotten rave reviews from our members and something unexpected:
Relief
Many reported the increased negativity on Facebook these days and a desire for a safe haven from it.
A member named Celine posted in the new group Activity Feed:
"Thank you for setting up a safe space for us to hang out. Many blessings to you both."
That makes it all worth it!
