Back in 2003, I was in bondage to emotional eating, which led me to gain over 100 pounds after high school.
I was successful in my career as a registered nurse and yet, the answer to my weight problem eluded me.
I tried diet after diet, thinking that my problem would be solved if only I could find the right one.
But in spite of my best efforts dieting, my story always ended the same, sad way.
Lose weight. Gain it back. Then Gain back More.
Arghhhh! (Charlie Brown scream).
I always ended back up in the same pit: Frustrated, discouraged and defeated.
Even worse, I used emotional eating to soothe the frustration, discouragement, and defeat left behind after the diet failure!
Can you see how destructive that cycle is?
I was caught up in it and couldn't see a way out.
But God showed me the truth. I was defeating myself without even knowing it.
You may be in that same position.
You are smart and resourceful. People come to you for comfort, care, and advice.
And yet, your own issue with emotional eating and weight is like a thorn in your side.
But the truth is that you may be making the mistake that most people make.
Most people approach the problem from the WRONG side - just like I did.
Think about it this way.
Just imagine a weed growing up in your garden.
No problem, you think. You break it off at the stem, discard it and go on your merry way.
But a few days later...what's this?
The weed is growing back!
How can this be?
You know the answer: Because you did not pull up the weed by the root!
As long as the root remained, so would the problem.
The sad thing is, each passing year that you practice emotional eating, the deeper the root goes and the harder it becomes to pull up.
The only way to fix this is to know the right strategy to get to the root of the issues that cause you to eat emotionally.
Yes, learning to eat properly and in the amounts that are right for you is important to reaching your best weight.
