The following is a devotion I wrote to encourage you in your weight loss journey. This devotion is included in my best-selling book:

Today's Focus
Scripture
Today's focus scripture is taken from Psalm 103:2-5:
Bless the LORD, O my soul,
And forget not all His benefits:
Who
forgives all your iniquities,
Who heals all your diseases,
Who redeems your life from destruction,
Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies,
Who satisfies your mouth with good things,
So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
Meditating on this scripture led me to make a
decision: Since I only have one life to live, I want to live it fit!
I know this will be especially crucial as I get older, God willing.
When I was
home health nursing, I saw clear examples of aging gracefully vs. aging poorly.
One lady in particular stood out for me.
Her doctor ordered a few home
nursing visits after her surgery. So I was assigned to check her vital signs and wound to ensure that no signs of infection existed.
This lady was in her 70s at the time, yet she looked 20 years younger.
She was moving freely around her home with an energy that was astonishing, especially given that she had had surgery just a couple of days before.
When I commented on her great health, she gave me her 2 secrets.
They were surprisingly simple.
She told me that she was taught to eat one red vegetable, one orange vegetable, and one green vegetable every day during World War
II.
She had done this without fail since then!
She also said that back then, she started a habit of exercising daily too, which she did
consistently.
She was living proof that good, daily health habits add up - and they pay off.
I wish I could say that most of the patients I saw were
like her, but they weren't.
Most were barely able to get out of bed. They were full of physical complaints and the slightest physical activity left them breathless.
They had to take expensive medications just to keep the symptoms of their sickness at bay.
In today's scripture, one of the benefits listed that God provides is that he satisfies your mouth with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagles.
I believe that he provides two things that satisfy your mouth - good words via the Bible and good food.
Good food is the food God placed on this earth specifically for the
human body to eat to function at its best.
I believe the more you fill your mouth with good food and good words, the more your youth will be renewed!
I can testify to this. Several years ago, I saw a woman who hadn't seen me in 15 years, when I was still obese.
When she saw me, she said, "You look younger now than you did then!" Mind you, I was in my late 20s then so it was quite a complement.
I certainly feel better now than I did then. I am able to do a lot of things that I wasn't able to do then. I can run, jump, skip, and play.
I even challenged one of my
teen-aged cousins to a foot race - and won! It feels great to be fit.
As part of your Christian weight loss goals, don't just consider the difference healthy habits will make in
your immediate future.
If God should grant you long life, how do you want to live it as you age?
Do you want to be strong, healthy, and vibrant?
Or do you want to be weak, sick, and sad?
Your choices now determine which future you will be living in. So choose wisely!
