What do you SEE when you EAT?

Published: Sat, 12/30/17

I was meditating on Genesis 1:29 in which God gives Adam, the first man, the first instruction about what he was to eat. I just saw something I've never seen before:

In instructing Adam, the first word out of God's mouth is "See (or 'Behold')."

In other words, God is telling Adam to look around at the abundance of foods to which He has given him access.

However, when the enemy tempted Eve, the first woman, he got her to shift her focus. He had her look at the ONE tree which God told Adam not to eat.

The more she looked, the more she desired that tree.

Eve had free access to dozens, perhaps hundreds or even thousands of trees - yet the enemy got her into feeling deprived because God told her not to eat of the one tree that would hurt her and bring her pain.

Well, the enemy's scheme worked.

Eve started looking at the wrong thing - which took her focus off the right thing. Next thing you know, she reached for the wrong thing.

So here is my question to you: What are you putting before your EYES?

What do you see when you look around your home, in your work area, when you go out to eat?

Before the battle even begins in your mind, consider if it is even a battle you must fight!

You can avoid many battles just by removing those foods that make you stumble in your environment (what you see) and replace them with foods that are more helpful to you.

For me, I ensure that over 50% of the foods I eat are those in line with Genesis 1:29 because to me, these are "Designer Foods."

God designed our bodies to work with foods He created - just like a car manufacturer specifies the fuel that works best with your car.

I find it interesting that many people will obsess over designer shoes and clothes to put on the outside of their bodies, yet will throw any old food INSIDE of their bodies.

They never consider whether that food will bring good to their bodies long-term or not.

It's what you put INSIDE of your body that will affect its function, it's energy, ability to repair itself, ability for you to stay emotionally stable, ability to stay focused and make wise decisions - and yes, maintain a healthy weight.

So take a look around today. If you lack peace in your eating - what are you seeing when you eat?
