On yesterday's episode of TBYT TV, I featured the following scripture from 1 Corinthians 6:12:
"All things are lawful for me, but all things are not helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any."
If you struggle with your weight, there is a good chance that you have foods in your diet that are unhelpful or have included such foods regularly in the past.
It is
likely they have altered your brain chemistry so that you feel emotionally attached to them.
Just the other day, I discovered a small thing that could have had power over me if I let it: Sugarless gum!
When I went to the grocery store the other day, my mouth was tasting tart. And when my mouth is tasting tart, that means that my breath is
probably tart too!
So on impulse, I saw some sugarless gum at the checkout counter and decided to buy it.
Big mistake.
I chewed on a piece and enjoyed the sweet taste. As I drove home, I decided to get another piece.
Then I grabbed a third.
Uh-oh. To me, that repeated behavior is a signal that my brain was being hijacked.
When you cannot control the amounts of something that you are eating, then that is a sign that something in the food is causing an addictive chemical reaction in your brain.
This is similar to what an allergy does to your body.
To limit the damage, you have to remove the harmful substance.
So I will not be buying the sugarless gum because I do not want to go through my life with my brain hijacked.
As an alternative, I will buy strong, small Peppermints which freshen my breath but don't hijack my brain.
