As Easy As it Gets

Are you waiting until tomorrow or Monday to start on your goals? Here is a lesson the Lord reinforced to me this morning:

"Today is the easiest it will get, so it's best to start today."

Here's how He re-taught me this lesson. This morning, I cut our lawn with a push mower.  When I finished cutting the grass, it was time to rinse off the lawnmower for next time. I turned over the lawnmower and saw all the grass clippings packed under there.

My heart sank. I wasn't expecting that much!

I started rinsing, but some of the clippings were packed so deeply that they wouldn't come off easily. Then, the thought crossed my mind: "Eh, I'll just leave it and wash it off the next time."

That's when the Lord arrested me with this thought:

He said, "Do you really think next time will be easier than it is right now? The next time, this grass is going to be drier, plus you will have added more grass clippings added on top of that."

That's when I realized it's the same principle with weight loss.

When you choose to wait, that is another day for you to think the same old thoughts and practice the same old habits.

With each passing day, these old thoughts and habits become more entrenched, harder to budge.

So while starting today will have its challenges, it's still going to be easier to start a new thing now than it will be tomorrow!

I went ahead and continued my rinsing. I had to direct a stronger water spray to some places longer than others, but eventually they loosened and came off.

When the lawnmower was cleaned, I stored it away for the next time. It was finished.

Hebrews 3:13 says:

"but exhort one another daily, while it is called 'Today,' lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin."

Take this message as encouragement; today is the easiest day to start working on your dreams, so start now.

You don't have to do anything major; just take one small step in the right direction.

If you take one small step forward today and keep taking those steps, you will be enjoying the benefits of a job well done in due season!
