"Fix my Heart, Lord" (a simple prayer)

Published: Sun, 12/04/16

Are you dealing with life issues? Although your issues may be different from mine, we have this in common: We can trace our issues to one or more of these categories: health, relationships, or finances.

In Proverbs 4:23, the Bible tell us where these issues originate - and how to fix them at the core:

"Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life."

Since all issues originate from the heart, a heart checkup is needed whenever you have a lingering issue in your life!

Since Jesus is our great Physician, the first thing to do is take the issue to Him in prayer. Here is a simple prayer to fit every issue category. You can modify these to fit your situation:

  • "Lord, my body is sick. I need you to fix my heart so that I prosper and live in health as my soul prospers (according to 3 John 1:2)."

  • "Lord, my relationship is sick. I need you to fix my heart so that I glorify You in every relationship (according to Hebrews 12:14-17)."

  • "Lord, my finances are sick. I need you to fix my heart so that I have all sufficiency in all things and have an abundance for every good work (according to 2 Corinthians 9:8)."

What is your issue? After taking the issue to the Lord in prayer, then fix your heart on scriptures that apply to the issue. "Fixed" means that you make a decision to believe, establish it, and act according to that decision.

But I'm not saying just take any action; the action must be that which the Lord is telling you to do after meditating on these scriptures and making them your own.

Psalm 57:7 says, "My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed: I will sing and give praise (King James Version)."

Do you live your life according to decision each day (a fixed heart) or just by how you feel each day (an unstable heart)?

Suppose you were having a rough day. You were upset, so you drove 100 miles an hour and ignored all the traffic laws. When the police stop you, you say:

"Officer, it's just been a terrible day. So, I don't believe the traffic laws apply to me right now."

Sounds ridiculous right? Yet, that's how many of us live. We ignore God's word simply because we don't feel like obeying it on a particular day. That is a heart issue that needs fixing.

The Lord's word stands, regardless of how you feel.

I am examining my heart today concerning an issue in my life that needs fixing. I pray that you do the same if you are facing any issues. And let's celebrate in advance that our hearts are fixed and all of our needs are met according to the Lord's riches in glory!

Be blessed in Health, Healing, and Wholeness,

P.S. When I weighed 240 pounds, I discovered that my food selections played a key role in how bad I felt. I was low in energy, was depressed, irritable, and prone to feelings of self-pity.

But in my weight loss journey, the Lord showed me how to eat to maintain emotional stability so that I could think clearer and make wiser decisions in all areas of my life.

It may seem like a small thing, but our Lord said:

"He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much (Luke 16:10)."

In the Take Back Your Temple program, you will learn how to eat for emotional stability so that you can reach your ideal weight. You will discover how you can feel your best so that you can do your best with what the Lord has given you.
