Does insecurity plague you? When you know that you belong, you feel confident in life - whatever the circumstances.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 makes it clear that you belong and to Whom you belong:
Or do you not know
that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s."
This scripture gives us several truths:
1. Your body is a sacred place
(temple) in which the Holy Spirit lives.
2. Your body does not belong to you.
3. Jesus paid the price for you (body, soul, and spirit) with His sacrifice on the cross.
The question then becomes: How do you live these truths with your daily choices?
Paul exhorted the people to change how they were
living. Their new focus was on glorifying God in their bodies and spirits.
When you glorify God, you display the character of God.
Other people would say, "Wow, you look just like your Daddy!"
Galatians 5:22-23 shows us God's character - "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,
longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law."
All of these things are evidence of the Holy Spirit's presence in you. This includes the fruit of self-control.
The Holy Spirit leads and guides you in the way you should go. The more you yield to His promptings in your daily choices, the more fruit you bear over time! Isn't that
wonderful?
Other people will be able to taste and see that the Lord is good - through you!
Not only do you have responsibility to glorify God because you belong to Him, you have POWER to do it as well through the presence of the Holy Spirit. This is the same Holy Spirit who raised Jesus from the
dead.
So do not lament the fact that you lack power to change. Yes, you do lack power in your flesh. If you rely on your flesh, you will fail. However, the Spirit gives life, power, and peace. Rejoice in Him!
Great things are in store for you. I hope you see what you will gain on this journey
and that it is worth the challenges. You may have to say "no" to the things that make you lose self-control, but the deeper relationship with Jesus is worth far more, wouldn't you agree?
God is about restoration, not condemnation. So rather than wasting time on condemning yourself for past mistakes, celebrate the restoration that is here right now!
Say this out loud: "I belong to God." Meditate on that truth today and experience the peace it brings.
Be blessed in Health, Healing, and Wholeness,
