Weight loss scripture: Enjoying perfect peace

Published: Wed, 03/11/15

Seeking peace through Jesus is one of the most practical prescriptions for health in the Bible. Yet, it can be one of the toughest for us to follow!

The following is a devotion I wrote to help you in this area. It is adapted from my best-selling book, The Weight Loss Scriptures: The 30-Day Daily Devotional for Weight Loss Motivation.

Today's Focus Scripture

You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You (Isaiah 26:3).

I once found myself worrying about a particular situation; the more I worried, the more anxious I became.

Then I thought, “Wait a minute. Jesus said that his yoke is easy and his burden is light (Matthew 11:30). I am feeling burdened right now. Something is wrong!”

Instantly, the focus scripture popped into my head and I closed my eyes and started meditating on God’s goodness. I meditated on situations that I had once thought were impossible to overcome, yet God brought me through.

A wonderful feeling of peace and calmness came over me after a while, proving the truth of the scripture.

So it will be for you too. The more you meditate on your problems, the more anxious you feel. The more you meditate on your solution (God), the more peace you feel.

It's no coincidence that Jesus calls His followers "sheep." Sheep in the natural are disturbed easily. But when they are disturbed, their first instinct is to move uphill and out of darkness.

We should imitate them in that regard. We should do the following when we are anxious:

  • Move “uphill” and seek the light of God’s presence and his Word
  • Seek other believers who can help support us during times of vulnerability
  • Strive to hear God’s voice so that we can follow where He would have us go.

I have learned the wisdom of keeping my mind stayed on the Good Shepherd. He knows my past, present, and future. My Shepherd loves me and has my best interest at heart. He promises that all things work together for my good because I am called according to his purpose (Romans 8:28).

If you find yourself being anxious about any aspect of your Christian weight loss plan or anything else in your life, then re-direct your mind to your Good Shepherd. Have confidence that you will receive His peace that surpasses all understanding!

Be blessed in Health, Healing, and Wholeness,
