In my own weight loss journey, one of the issues I dealt with was comparing my body to famous female celebrities - and wishing my body was shaped like theirs.
But I had to learn to appreciate the
unique person God created me to be. Appreciate means to add value.
I read a wonderful quote this week that illustrates this point: "Every minute spent wishing you were somebody else is time stolen from becoming the person God created you to be."
The following is a prayer I wrote to help myself in this area. I pray it encourages you as well. This prayer is included in my popular book, The Weight Loss Prayers: 30 Daily Prayers for Weight Loss Motivation.
Today's Prayer
Gracious Father, I praise You that I am fearfully and wonderfully made! Your work is marvelous and that my soul knows very well. Your word says that you rejoice over me with
gladness and singing. Thank you for giving me this body as my home to live in while I am on this Earth.
Because I value Your gift, I do
everything I possibly can to learn how to take care of my body and apply what I learn.
I no longer criticize my body. When I insult myself, I am
insulting the one whom You have created. My body is what it is today. However, I know that the choices I make today will either make my body stronger tomorrow or worse.
Help me Lord to make wise choices in my health habits. Help me to choose foods that give me energy and vitality so that I can give my best to my family, church, and community. Thank You for clothing me with strength and honor. Amen."
Be blessed in
Health, Healing, and Wholeness,
