How do you start your morning? When you awake do you groan, "Good God, it's morning." Or do you begin in praise: "It's morning, God is good!"
Almost the same words, but arranged differently. How you begin your day sets the tone for the day, like setting a thermostat.
The following is a devotion I wrote to encourage you in this area. It is adapted from my popular picture book, Encourage Me: The 30 Day Daily Devotional to Positive Self
Talk.
Today's Focus Scripture
"Let my mouth be filled with
Your praise And with Your glory all the day. (Psalm 71:8).
Psychologists tell us that we think over 50,000 thoughts per day (no, I do not know who counted them). Because most of those thoughts are
negative, is it any wonder that so many people are suffering from depression and anxiety?
If you have a problem with negative emotions and self talk, then take the above scripture as a prescription.
Jesus said in Luke 6:45, "A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks."
So to speak positive words, the meditation of your heart must be positive first. Think of all the good things that the Lord has done for you.
Sing and make melody in your heart. As you focus on praise and worship, you will feel God's Glory all around you. Your heart will fill with joy, and you will have quiet confidence that you can face any challenges that life throws it you.
My husband and I start every morning by singing "Jesus Loves Us" (a variation on the song Jesus Loves Me) before we even get out of bed! After we sing and usher in the Lord's presence, then we pray.
Instead of starting your morning on a negative (i.e, "I don't want to go to work today"), then start on a positive with praise and worship.
By starting your day on a positive note, it will be more likely to end that way.
Be blessed in Health, Healing, and
Wholeness,
