Feeling Burdened? Do these 5 Things

Published: Wed, 09/24/14

Have you ever felt burdened by your life? When you think about your responsibilities and all the things you have to do, do you ever feel weary of it?

I have been there!

In fact, I was tired thinking about all the things I have to do today. But then, the Holy Spirit reminded me:

"You are the one putting all of that weight on yourself. You are carrying things that you are not meant to carry."

After agreeing with Him, I thought about what the Bible says about burdens. I learned 5 things that should help you too if you are feeling weighed down right now.

First, here are the Scriptures I meditated on to get to those 5 things:

·    Hebrews 12:1-2 - "Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God."

·    Matthew 11:28-30 - "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."

·    Isaiah 46:4 - "But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint."

·    Isaiah 40:31  - "Even to your old age, I am He, And even to gray hairs I will carry you! I have made, and I will bear; Even I will carry, and will deliver you."

Now, here are the 5 things to keep in mind when you are feeling burdened:

1. Remember that others have finished well before you. If they made it through with the Lord's help, so can you.

2. Take inventory of your life right now. Ask yourself these three questions:

·         "What weight or sin are you carrying right now?"

·         "Are these things that God would have you to carry?"

·         "If not, are you willing to lay these things down at Jesus' feet so that you can move forward in freedom today?

If you are not willing to lay them aside, then the root of your unwillingness is fear. What do you fear will happen if you lay these weights/sins at Jesus' feet - and leave them there?

3. Remember that Jesus is running this race with you. Read the Gospels regularly so that you can see Jesus in action and learn to view the world the way He does. This is a lifetime study and a Holy Spirit-guided work in your heart and mind.

4. Stay in prayer and ask the Lord for patience. Patience is doing the 'next right thing' regarding each daily choice. Follow the Holy Spirit's leading and leave the results up to God. Be confident that the results will happen in God's timing.

Remember the prayer in the song 'One Day at a Time:'

"One day at a time sweet Jesus

That's all I'm asking from you.

Just give me the strength

To do everyday what I have to do.

Yesterday's gone sweet Jesus

And tomorrow may never be mine.

Lord help me today, show me the way

One day at a time."

5. If you are feeling burdened in the future, go back and check the previous four things. Forgetfulness is the enemy of faith. So you must take these steps daily so that you can allow Jesus to do the heavy lifting in your life!

Be blessed in health, healing, and wholeness,

P.S. Aren't you tired of feeling weighed down by excess weight? The Bible says that all issues start from the heart. That is a work that only God can do. Another diet or surgery will never fix it. I had to learn that from my own weight loss journey.
