I heard a statement recently that made me think: "The five senses are the voice of our bodies." That led me to a question that might make you go "Hmmm":
Do people develop habits of eating too much because eating is the only way they give
their bodies a 'voice'?
How intentional are you every day about doing pleasant things to engage your senses of sight, smell, touch, and hearing? I left 'Taste' off of the list because many of us don't have a problem stimulating that one!
I believe many Christian treat life as an "out of body" experience. The only conscious pleasure they allow themselves daily is to eat. But I believe that when you learn to engage your other senses daily, then
food can resume a normal focus in your life. After all, you are giving your body other ways to express its voice!
1 Corinthians 6:20 says that we glorify God in body and Spirit. What better way to glorify God than to praise Him for the wonderful abilities in your five senses? Strive to get maximum enjoyment from them.
I created an article with a list of things you can do besides eat when stress or emotions overwhelm you. All of these involve engaging your senses. This will add more "life" to your life!
Things to Do Besides Eating (List)
I'd love to hear your thoughts on this as well. Please comment at the end of the article. Are you giving your body a voice or are you telling it - have a cookie and be quiet? Something to think about!
Be blessed in health, healing, and wholeness,
Kimberly Taylor
