Where Patience, Comfort, and Hope are Found

Published: Thu, 08/28/14

Tonight, my husband was troubled. He is going through a trying situation right now. I want to fix it for him, but I can't. I felt powerless to comfort him. It seemed every word I said was trite. They sounded hollow, even to my own ears.

Then, the Spirit led me to pick up the Bible. I started reading various passages to him aloud.

Here is what the Lord led me to read:

  • 2 Chronicles Chapter 20
  • Psalm 1
  • Psalm 91
  • Psalm 119
  • Psalm 121
  • Psalm 125

As I read the chapters in Psalm out loud to him, I felt his body relax. The words refreshed his Spirit. He was finally able to go to sleep.

I don't think it is a coincidence that most of the chapters I read were in the book of Psalm. The book of Psalm follows Job; the book of all comfort follows the book of ultimate suffering!

"... Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning (Psalm 30:5)."

So if you are going through trouble and nothing seems to comfort you, then do what I did. Pick up your Bible and start reading some of the above passages.

" For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope (Romans 15:4)."

If you need patience, comfort, and hope to get through your trying time, then don't rely upon man's word; go directly to the source of them - God's word!

Be blessed in health, healing, and wholeness,
