This Prayer Changes Everything (Corrected Link)

Oops! I just saw that the link I included to the previous article on fixing your heart doesn't work. Here is the article with the link corrected. Sorry about that!:

Isn't it funny how the simplest things are the most powerful? This simple 4-word prayer is changing my life: "Fix my heart, Lord." Just last week, God gave me a message about the importance of keeping your heart fixed on Him - and making that decision daily.

Proverbs 4:23 says that all of life's issues spring from the heart. So if you want your faith strong and to reach your health goals, then you must guard your heart. Otherwise, your heart will turn constantly according to your emotions, impulses, temptations, or worldly distractions.

King Solomon's story is a great example of this problem. It is one of the saddest stories in the Bible. While Solomon is known as the wisest king who ever lived, he did not finish well in life because of one thing:

"For it was so, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned his heart after other gods; and his heart was not loyal to the Lord his God, as was the heart of his father David (1 Kings 11:4)."

In Psalm 57:7, David declared, "My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed; I will sing and give praise." David was steadfast in his decision to follow God. But clearly, Solomon's heart was not fixed otherwise no one could have turned it! This shows me that even the wisest among us is subject to falling and failing if our hearts aren't fixed.

Praying "Fix my heart, Lord" each day does several things for me:

1. Like setting the thermostat in my house, I declare that my heart is set on obeying God today. Dealing with the distractions and temptations of today is what I need to focus on. Jesus said it best: "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble (Matthew6:34)."

2. I declare my need for God today, opening up my heart to Him to fix whatever needs to be fixed. While "heart surgery" is uncomfortable, I know that healing is assured with the Great Physician in charge! I want righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit daily (see Romans14:17) more than being comfortable. I am getting comfortable being uncomfortable.

3. I allow God to remove the barriers that prevent His power from working within me today. Ephesians 3:20 gives a great promise: "Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us,"

I am getting out of my own way today so I can see what God's "exceedingly abundantly" looks like in my life! I hope you decide to do the same. God wants His best for us even more than we want it.

But that can't happen with us in the way.

So if you are willing to receive it, I agree with you in prayer every day to "Fix my heart, Lord." And let's stand in great expectancy to see what the Lord will do in our lives. We will combine prayer and praise together as King David did:  "My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed; I will sing and give praise."

Be blessed in Health, Healing, and Wholeness,
