Recently, I received a bad review of my How To Stop Binge Eating online course. You might think it is weird for me to reveal that, however that negative review encouraged me. I see my reaction to it as a sign of my Spiritual growth!
You see, there was a time when I would take criticism personally. While the course has 28 mostly five-star
ratings, the positive reviews would not have mattered in the old days.
Instead I would have focused on the one criticism, branded myself a failure, and kick myself mentally for even taking the risk. An over-reaction? Maybe, but I'm being transparent here. That's where I was.
This time was different however. I focused on what I could learn from the bad review. It is like panning for gold. You keep the gold nuggets; you discard the dirt.
So my gold nugget was the reviewer stating that she felt there was "way too much talk about God."
While "way too much" is relative, I am glad I made it clear that my deliverance from binge eating was only possible with God's help.
I wrote the young lady back and told her that I am sorry that the course did not meet her expectations. I suggested that she ask for a refund and I
recommended another course on Udemy that may suit her needs better.
After I sent the message to her, I prayed for her and her family. I had an opportunity to put into practice Jesus' wise words from Matthew 5:44.
Isn't it encouraging to recognize how far God has
brought you? Rather than being discouraged over how far you have to go with your goals, celebrate how far you've already come.
Make this your constant praise: "Hallelujah, He's still working on me!" As long as you are focused on what you are learning on the journey, you are NEVER a failure.
