Do you know what the enemy's #1 trick is during an emotional storm? He wants you to believe that just because you are going through a tough time now, it will always be that way. Such a lie!
I thought about this during a recent exercise session. I realized that each workout is like a "fire drill" on handling emotional storms.
Here are the three things exercise has taught me about handling challenging times with grace:
1. Breathe through it. While my breathing is steady most of the time, I switch to breathing out long and slow when lifting a heavy weight. That skill comes in handy when dealing with a frustrating situation or person!
2. Stay focused. I focus on my purpose during the challenge. I remind myself that my body does not belong to me but it is a resource to fulfill
God's purpose on this Earth. With the energy I gain from regular exercise, I am more productive.
Someone once said: "Physical strength enhances emotional strength." I know that exercise definitely helps with my emotional stability. There's nothing like a prayer walk
to put frustrating situations into perspective!
3. It will
end. Yes, workouts can be tough but they don't last forever. You can endure, knowing that the hard part will be over soon. I once heard a pastor say "Storms come to pass, not to last."
Jesus said, "These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world. (John 16:33)"
That is a wonderful promise and a Rock you can hold on to through any storm. I hope that you will take a look at the challenges in your life and ask, what knowledge am I gaining through this and most importantly, how can I apply it?
You will grow in wisdom and God will be glorified!
Be blessed in Health, Healing, and Wholeness,
