God is AWESOME

If you magnify bad news in your life, then you are vulnerable to the enemies of depression, fear, doubt, and anxiety. But when you magnify God and His goodness in your life, then those enemies have to scatter.

How about making the enemy run for cover today? Over one year ago, God led me to dig into the scriptures for all of the words I could find that described His character. These words would increase my faith in who He is and the fact that He keeps His promises. I came up with 77 words/phrases. Today, I feel led to share one of them with you.

The word of the day to describe God is "Awesome."

Devotion

I remember the  first time that I saw the ocean, big, vast, and blue. I was astonished because it seemed to go on forever. Then I imagined all of the animals who called the ocean home: Whales, sharks, squid, fish...a whole world underneath the water's surface.

When you think about how awe-inspiring the ocean is, just imagine that God is the One who created it and everything that is within it! When you feel small, do you take the time to consider the "big-ness" of your God? If I have fears, then that is an automatic signal to me that I am meditating too much on the situation and not enough on God in that moment.

If you replace the word "awesome" with its definition, you will see that it means "Extremely impressive, good, excellent or daunting; inspiring great admiration, apprehension, or fear."

In the "awesome" scriptures (see below), you learn that God is the ultimately just judge; He is not partial to rich or poor, black or white, man or woman. No one can bribe Him to do what they want Him to do. What could they offer...after all, He owns everything!

For those of us in Christ, we have no need to fear or be apprehensive about God because He has adopted us as His own children. Rather, we have great respect and reverence for Him because of His great love for us.

So we can take confidence in the fact that He never leaves us nor forsakes us; He cares for our welfare and if anyone comes against us, then they will have the God of the universe to contend with. He is truly awesome!

Meditation scriptures

  • Deuteronomy 7:21: You shall not be terrified of them; for the LORD your God, the great and awesome God, is among you.

  • Deuteronomy 10:17: For the LORD your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality nor takes a bribe.

  • Jeremiah 20:11: But the LORD is with me as a mighty, awesome One. Therefore my persecutors will stumble, and will not prevail. They will be greatly ashamed, for they will not prosper. Their everlasting confusion will never be forgotten.

Be blessed in Health, Healing, and Wholeness,
